To Bake Or Not To Bake?

Baking has rapidly become a popular trend in the beauty world recently and it's not hard to see why. Baking, for those who aren't familiar, is applying a caking a thick amount of translucent powder under they eyes to avoid creasing or on other areas of the face, leaving it to 'bake' for 10 minutes and then brushing off the excess which also helps makeup stay on longer and matte. I, unfortunately have quite a few fine lines underneath my eyes which causes the concealer to crease like no tomorrow, so baking has become a necessity in my makeup routine.

I have tried quite a few powders test out what works best for me, including the Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder in 001 Translucent, Australis Translucent Powder and the Ben Nye Translucent Powder. Here's my verdict!

#1 Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder - 001 Translucent

Baking is typically used with loose powders, although I have found this powder to work quite well for this trend. I take a makeup wedge sponge and load up a copious amount of the powder on the end, then proceed to press the powder on the areas I chose to bake which is my under eye area. This powder is much more subtle than a loose powder, but also eliminates any creasing and helps the area to stay matte and crease free all day. This is my everyday option to set my under eyes!

#2 Australis Translucent Powder

Soooo, I was a huge fan of this powder and was using it religiously to set my face and to bake my under eyes, until last night, when my worst makeup nightmare occurred. Let me explain...

This powder has an incredibly soft and fine texture, which feels very lightweight and amazing on the skin. This product is great for setting your face, just don't bake with it. Take a look at this photo and you'll see why....

Products that contain talc usually do this, although to my knowledge this powder is talc free, so I have no idea why it did this. Completely devastated as all my photos last night have this white cast. Thank goodness I can still use this as a face powder!

#3 Ben Nye Translucent Powder

Ben Nye is well-known for their banana powder that also is very popular in the beauty world. I decided to try the translucent variation to see what this powder was like. This powder is great for baking! It's a thicker consistency although it does an excellent job at baking. It doesn't crease and the makeup stays matte all day. The con to this powder is that it has a shimmery finish to it, which draws attention to the under eye area as it glistens in the light. It is good for night time wear as there is no light to show the shimmer, although during the day time, the sun causes the powder to glisten like a highlighter! I will still use this powder at night, but unfortunately not a day time option.
