Life Changing Hair Hacks!

I am absolutely useless when it comes to styling my hair, so naturally I have stumbled across some hacks to help me make my hair look somewhat presentable and ready for the day. Here are my seven go to hacks that I use on a regular basis, whether I'm in a rush or am attempting to spruce up my do. Enjoy!

Hack #1 - Taming Fly Aways

There is nothing more frustrating than those little baby hairs that just won't cooperate and continue to stick up in all different directions despite the countless amount of times you've tried to brush them down. What I do is I grab a spoolie brush, a toothbrush or an old mascara wand, spray hairspray on it, then brush it over the baby hairs until they are all stuck down. Works a treat and no frizz. Clear mascara also does the trick too!

Hack #2- Boost The Pony

Over a limp ponytail? Flip your pony tail up over your head, slide two bobby pins through the hair tie towards the nape of your neck, then flick your ponytail back over. This method creates lift under your ponytail bringing it life and height! This is perfect for long heavy hair, although I do it too and it still works a treat!

Hack #3 - Volume...?

For years I could never figure out how to get volume in my naturally fine, flat hair until one day I was recommended to try a mousse. I, of course hesitated but decided to give it a go and boy was I impressed! In towel dry hair, spread a volumizing mousse through the hair focussing at the roots, blow dry with your head upside (trust me, it works) or a brush and pull the roots up. Add some teasing if necessary and BOOM, your hair is voluminously volumized!

(Left is volume, Right is natural)

Hack #4 - My Saviour...Dry Shampoo

Dry shampoo is my ride or die for when I forget to wash my hair or I'm too lazy to. I can not live without dry shampoo and can't understand how I went without it for so long. Dry shampoo helps soak up the oils in your hair and adds volume if required. Spray to the roots, massage in and you're good to go. I use one that is tailored for dark hair to avoid the white patches and it is an amazing invention. Alternatively, baby powder is a great option as well, just make sure you massage it in!

Hack #5 - HELP My Foundation is staining my hair!!

As amazing as foundation is to our lives, it can also be super frustrating when it stains things, like our hair and brows, especially blonde hair! When my friend asked me tips to help this stop happening, I took to the internet to help me find ways. Here's a few I found...

Tip 1) Put vaseline/paw paw ointment (oil based) over the baby hairs, apply foundation as normal, remove the vaseline and touch up the hairline with a matching powder. Powder doesn't tend to stain as it isn't as concentrated as liquid.

Tip 2) After applying foundation, wipe the baby hairs with baby wipes and touch up with powder.

Tip 3) Wear a thick hairband to completely cover the baby hairs to avoid the foundation.

Tip 4) Start applying foundation at the centre of the face so less product goes near the perimeters, meaning less product in the hairs.

Tip 5) This one was a little more extreme, but I thought I'd include it anyway. Some women chose to completely remove their baby hairs to avoid the issue, whether they shaved, waxed, used hair removal cream or laser removal treatments. The hair is completely gone!

Good Luck!

Hack #6 - Curls that won't stay curled

My hair is quite fine and soft which makes the curls fall out almost as quickly as they took to create which made curling my hair pointless. Here's my tip, once you curl a section, grab a mini alligator clip and clip it through the curl to hold it in its shape. By doing this the curl will cool and set into a curl and maintain its shape once the clip is removed. Blast with hairspray, remove the clips and you're ready to go!

Hack #7 - I have bald spots!

Some of us have thinner hair in places which makes our hair look thin and wispy. Of course there is a hack to solve this. When you have finished styling your hair, put some eyeshadow the same colour as your hair on a brush as lightly dust if over those thinning spots or your part to make your hair look thicker. I do this on one side of my hair where it's a bit thinner and it makes a huge different. Perfect for updos!

So there they are, my seven life changing hair hacks that I know will change your life too. I really hope you enjoyed this post and give a few of these a try. Follow and Tag me on Instagram ( _ashleelouise ) so I can see how well these hacks worked for you.
